The blood of Norman warriors who first arrived on British shores with the Conquest of 1066, flows through the veins of the Boyds of today.
By the twelfth century they had found a new home in Scotland, where over the following centuries they played a noble role in defence of the nation’s freedom and independence.
In more peaceful times, and on the stage, William Boyd was the American actor born in Cambridge, Ohio, in 1895 and who began his career in silent film romances but later achieved fame as the cowboy hero Hopalong Cassidy.
Also on the stage, Billy Boyd, born in Glasgow in 1968, is the actor best known for his role as the hobbit Peregrine Took in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy (2001-2003). He also played the role of Barrett Bowden in the 2003 film Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World.
