Stuart of Bute Heavyweight Tartan is a muted purple-based tartan with shades of green and blue.
Descending from Sir John Stewart, this tartan is based around the lands of Bute, Arran and Cumbrae when they were made into a country by Robert III. Sir John was made hereditary sheriff to the lands, as set out in a Royal Charter of 1400.James Stewart was sheriff of Bute between 1445 and 1449.
